I’m joining A Victorian Celebration for June-July 2012!

I’m always excited for reading events and challenges, especially in the Classics genre. So when I found out about Allie’s A Victorian Celebration, I finally decided to join even though I was hesitant at first. I’ve always loved literature works from the nineteenth century, and literature works during the Victorian era (1837-1901) shouldn’t be so far off.

After searching my shelves for books that would suit the event, I built up my reading list below. Many of them are “light-reads”, a lot of short stories collection; I won’t read anything tough, because I also plan to read other books that are not part of the Victorian Celebration too.

Here is my reading list for A Victorian Celebration:

JUNE

Villette by Charlotte Bronte (first published 1853)

The Happy Prince and Other Tales by Oscar Wilde (first published 1888) (READ) Read review.

Little Lord Fauntleroy by Frances Hodgson Burnett (first published 1885-1886) (READ) Read review.

Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling (first published 1902) (READ) Read review.

JULY

Tess of d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy (first published 1891)

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling (first published 1894) (READ) Read review.

There are 3 books from non-English authors that were published during the Victorian era that I would like to read for this event, they are:

Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe (first published 1852)

Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott (first published 1875)

Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman (first published 1855)
